DUBAI ROADSTERS CLUB
Welcome to the Dubai Roadsters. We are a group of Dubai-based cycling enthusiasts promoting and practicing the sport of cycling in all its forms in Dubai and throughout the rest of the United Arab Emirates and Middle East region. Our mission is to promote cycling as a sport, with all the benefits to health and well-being complimenting our emphasis on sportsmanship and camaraderie. One of our goals is to present a positive marketing image to the Emirati people and encourage them to participate in cycling activities.
The club’s founding members were a group of road cycling friends that in 1997 began a series of regular road rides in Dubai. Since then the club has continued to grow steadily until 2002 when
Wolfi’s Bike Shop took over the patronage of the club. While our primary focus till now has been road cycling, we have, in the past few years expanded into mountain biking and family-oriented rides to help all our members in satisfying their cycling needs.
Currently our membership list includes men, women and juniors who regularly join our thrice-a-week rides. As most of our members are temporary residents, they maintain ties with a range of countries throughout the world and so the Dubai Roadtsers colours can be seen in many diverse locations, both in competition and recreational events.
Beyond road cycling, many of the club members can be found raising funds and awareness for many local charities. Dubai Roadster members have helped raise funds for charities such as Ride of the Roses, Pedal In Pink (Breast Cancer Foundation), Dubai Autism Center and the Abu Dhabi Special Care Center.
To encourage new cyclists and to help improve rider skills, we hold a Beginner’s Night on the first Sunday of every month. The purpose is to show them how to ride safely in a bunch ride and how to safely share the road with other Dubai residents.
The Dubai Roadsters is a not-for-profit organisation that relies on the generosity of its members for the club’s continued existence. The generous member support allows us to have
Volunteer Support Vehicles for the weekly Friday Rides which provide emergency medical and mechanical help to riders in distress. It also allows us to host social events which promote cycling as a sport and encourages networking by members.
All of the Dubai Roadster riders are urged to set a positive image by riding in a law-abiding and responsible manner. The 120-strong Friday Ride can be seen in echelon through the streets of Dubai and even out into the desert landscape. All riders are expected to have an understanding of
Bunch Riding Etiquette and if you need to revisit these common-sense rules, then download the information and start reading.
Joining the Dubai Roadsters
All riders are welcome to join the weekly rides as long as they have a bike in good working condition, a helmet, and lights for the night rides. Most importantly you must have a passion for cycling. We also recommend that you carry a completed copy of the Rider Form (or drop into Wolfi’s Bike Shop and pick up a business card sized version). This will provide emergency response personnel with all your information should the necessity arise.
There are no fees for the Dubai Roadsters as it is an informal, though regular, gathering of cyclists.
If you would like to participate in any of the rides, simply come and join in on one of the scheduled events. If unsure of your level of fitness try one of the evening rides first!
The Rides
There are 3 regular rides every week; Tuesday and Sunday evening training rides and a longer ride on Friday mornings.
The Tuesday and Sunday rides start around 18:00pm to 21:30pm and are held on a loop circuit at Nad Al Sheba. You can expect a mix of up to 50 riders on these rides and the pace can be quite hot up front. Feel free to go at your own pace or join the main bunch at any time.
Friday morning we meet in front of the Lime Tree Cafe on Jumeirah Beach Road at 6.00am (5.30 am during the hotter months) for a longer road ride. Please call us
04-3394453 to confirm the start time. The initial group is usually around 150 riders, though this is reduced after each turn-around point. There are 3 ride distances of approximately 80km, 120km, and 140km. Support vehicles follow the main bunch and one vehicle will return with each group as they turn back for home. Volunteers for the support car can register as a driver (and also see which days are available) through the Dubai Roadsters website on the
Support Car Roster or get in touch with Helen. All help is greatly appreciated.
If you are a newcomer to bunch riding, the first Sunday ride of every month focuses on bunch riding etiquette and safety tips. Please come along and improve your confidence. We meet at the mosque carpark which is along the Nad al Sheba loop
